Thinking About Going the Golf Sim Installer Route? These Sim Owners Say It’s Worth It.

With 10+ years in the sim space, it’s a question we hear all the time: “When should I turn to a professional for my sim build?”

Some people love the nitty gritty of DIY—others want someone else to bring their vision to life. While we’ve featured tons of DIY and budget builds here at Sim Weekly, we wanted to dive deeper into the world of pro installation. Recently, we caught up with two sim owners who chose to go that route—with help from the team at Ace Indoor Golf.

Ace has decades of experience and is one of the top sources for golf simulator sales, design, and installation across both residential and commercial golf simulator spaces. Their team members have worked for Foresight, Uneekor, Trackman, About Golf, and SkyGolf giving them multibrand expertise while installing for some of the top businesses in golf like PGA Tour Superstore, Foresight, 5-Iron Golf, Edwin Watts, Oakland Hills Golf Club, and more. So it’s no surprise that Scott Stevens and TJ Losier trusted this golf sim installer to bring their dream setups to life.

So what does a pro-installed sim look like in action? Let’s take a peek behind the curtain.

“We had been considering adding a game room addition to our house.” Scott told us. “While we’re empty nesters, we have grandkids local, and wanted a space for them. I also golf pretty frequently with my sons-in-law, so I thought the addition would be a great place for a simulator”

Scott knew he wanted the “Cadillac” of simulators, but he also knew he was out of his depth when it came to specs and components. That’s where Ace came in.

“It’s a significant investment, and I wanted to make sure I went about it the right way. With [Ace] selling all the different simulator components on their site, I felt confident that they had the knowledge and could recommend ‘the best of.’’

And recommend ‘the best of’, they did.

Scott’s final build includes a Foresight Falcon launch monitor, multi-sport gaming, and a custom screen and enclosure—turning the sim into the focal point of the game room.

“It became a real feature of the game room instead of just being one of the things in the room,” Scott says. “I love having fun with my son-in-laws, and I’m excited for the grandkids to try out the multi-sport setup.

TJ’s Simulator Setup

While Scott focused on function and family fun, TJ Losier came into the project with an eye for design. He knew he wanted a simulator to entertain, but it had to look great, too—and fit seamlessly into the aesthetic of his home.

“My wife and I are really particular. The aesthetic of the sim was really important to us, and we needed something that not only worked with our space, but looked good.”

TJ wanted to be involved in every decision, but also needed guidance navigating all the components. That’s where Ace really delivered.

“Ace was amazing at laying out the options. We walked through the pros and cons of the different software, launch monitors, computer systems, and projectors. They talk you through the decisions. Take the launch monitor, for example. By talking to Ace, I realized I didn’t want one on the ground that would have to be picked up and moved around. I wanted it ceiling mounted to free up that space”

And when it came to dealing with tricky spaces, Ace was a pro at that too.

“Originally, the space had an archway, but to close off the sim space, we built a custom barn door. Ace also hand cut the protective padding to fit on the sliding door. They were able to really adapt to what we needed.”

The result? A sim space that delivers on form and function.

“My vision really came to life—I love the black turf and the black padding across the side walls and the ceiling. And, it’s been great to get multi-generational use out of it. My dad, younger brothers, and I love having a little family competition on the sim.”
