Home Golf Simulator Reviews: Find the best by Price Range

The home golf simulator market is flush with great options. It is great to have choices, but it becomes challenging to pick the best home golf simulator for your needs. There isn’t a single best home golf simulator for all golfers.  Which simulator is best for you really depends on your needs, your space and your budget.

Yardstick Golf completed extensive research to help you find the best home golf simulator. We surveyed actual owners for their reviews on golf simulators to provide you the best input into your indoor golf buying decision. We’ve grouped the top sellers into budget ranges to help narrow your focus based on your budget. Below is a short description of each simulator with details on their features.  If you would prefer to see a side-by-side comparison in a spreadsheet, we've provided that for you at this link: home golf simulators compared on a spreadsheet.

In each section we will evaluate and compare home golf simulator features and user reviews. We’ll cover what shot data is provided, how much space is needed, course compatibility, inside or outside use and more.

Top Premium Golf Simulators (Best home simulators over $10,000)
In the high end category, two simulators dominated our survey and research.  These were the Foresight GCQuad and the Uneekor EYE XO.  Both come packed with amazing features that are often comparable to commercial golf simulator features.  High end home golf simulators tend to track the most data about the golf swing, have the widest compatibility with 3rd party golf course software, and putting add on features.

The GCQuad came in as the most accurate home golf simulator in our survey.  Likely due to the Quadrascopic imaging, owners reported the GCQuad delivering a highly accurate and detailed picture of ball and club head performance analysis. The Quad is a three-time Golf Digest Editors' Choice Award Winner.  The GCQuad measures:

  • Ball Data: ball speed, horizontal launch angles, vertical launch angles, spin, spin axis, carry distance (calculated)
  • Club Data: club head velocity, swing path, attack angle, club face angle, smash factor, dynamic loft at impact, dynamic lie at impact, impact position on club face (*requires club head analysis add-on)

More portable than the EYE XO, it is easier to use outside. The Quad also comes with the FSX simulation software that includes five courses, skills challenges, club fitting and more. Another plus is that it does not required a marked ball to track metrics.

Another great high end home simulator is the Uneekor Eye XO.  It is priced about 1/3 less than the GCQuad. As a result, the EYE XO was the most frequently purchased premium home golf simulator in our survey.  It is a ceiling mounted unit.  As a result it is not as portable and not a as easy to move between indoor and outdoor use.  It is a high-speed camera-based simulator that allows you to use any ball you choose.

  • Ball Data: ball speed, back spin, side spin, total spin, spin, spin axis, ball impact on the club face.
  • Club Data: club head velocity, swing path, attack angle, club face angle, smash factor, club loft, club lie, impact position on club face (*requires club head sticker)

A plus of the overhead system is that you do not need to reposition it to switch between left and right-handed players.  It has software options that come with up to 20 courses, allows for up to 6 players, club fitting data, short game training and more.

Best Simulators Under $10,000

These are fantastic options for both training and playing a wide variety of simulated games. Since I just covered both of these brands above, I won’t repeat myself on similar features.

SkyTrack Golf Simulator

The SkyTrack was by far the most frequently owned home golf simulator in our survey. In addition, over 96% of SkyTrack owners in our survey said they would buy it again. It has one of the best price to performance ratio’s in the market. It is portable, compatible with many game and performance systems. Because of the compatibility, it can be used as a launch monitor and a golf simulator.

SkyTrack is a camera based mobile unit that can be used outside. It is side positions, so it will need to be moved to accommodate both left and tight handed golfers.
  • Ball Data: launch angle, ball speed, side spin, back spin, ball angle
  • Club Data: club speed

The Mevo+ builds on the success of the Mevo and offers a compelling package at a great value. It offers an extensive list of data parameters you can track. As a result, it is a great tool to train for performance and play simulated golf. It also does automated video clipping so you can see your swing right after your shot.
  • Ball Data: smash factor. Apex height, flight time, launch angle, ball speed, side spin, back spin, ball angle, total distance, roll distance, shot shape
  • Club Data: club speed, angle of attack
The Mevo+ comes with five golf courses and is compatible with E6 software to allow you to add other courses to your simulator games.

Best Affordable Golf Simulators (Best Simulators under $1,000)

In the under $1,000 category, I found that the four most popular home golf simulators are the Flightscope Mevo, Optishot 2, Rapsodo, and Swing Caddie SC200. Our buyer survey found these to be the most frequently purchased home golf simulators.

Flightscope Mevo

Rated in our survey as the most accurate simulator under $1,000, the Mevo packs a lot in a small and portable package.  You can Practice inside or outside with data parameters that include carry distance, club head speed, ball speed, smash factor, vertical launch angle, spin, apex height and flight time.

I like that it is very portable, requires a minimum of space, responds quickly, is easy to set up and can be used by right or left-handed golfers. Downsides are the lack of courses that come with the device and the need to use metal stickers to pick up spin.

Rapsodo Golf Simulator
Rapsodo

The Rapsodo is a new entrant that has been well-received and has some unique features.  It has shot tracer and the ability to show your club to the camera for automatic club detection.  It was the second most accurate home simulator in our survey and industry testing on accuracy was very positive.

The Rapsodo works for both left and right-handed golfers, works both inside and out, and offers video playback of your swing.  It does not appear to track ball spin, nor does it come with any included golf courses.

Swing Caddie

The Swing Caddie was one of the most frequently purchased affordable home simulators in our survey.  Roughly half of the under $1,000 respondents were Swing Caddie owners.  The Swing Caddie SC200 tracks Carry Distance, Swing Speed, Ball Speed, and Smash Factor.

Unique features I like are the voice response and remote control.  Another neat feature is target mode that lets you set a target distance to challenge your consistency. Just tell the device what distance you plan to hit and with what club and once you hit the ball it will give you a score out of 10 to show how close you were to your target as well as all your other stats.

Optishot 2

The OptiShot is an infrared (IR) golf simulator.  That means it emits a light signal to capture the position of the clubhead through the swing.  It allows you to swing without a ball, but may not be as accurate as radar or camera-based models.  It rated as the least accurate of the models in our survey, but comes with many courses and features that make it a fun budget level entry in this category.

Closing Thoughts
The use of golf launch monitors has grown increasingly popular for pros and amateurs alike. As a result, many great options continue to enter the market. Golfers can now train in very smart ways and play whenever they want. I hope you found this article of some help and you will soon be on your way to making the right purchase for you.
