Golf Simulator Accessories for the Ultimate Golf Experience

Ulimate golf simulator accessories

Essential Golf Simulator Accessories

Every golfer’s dream is to have a place to hit balls indoors in their home or office. As long as you have the space, it’s relatively easy and inexpensive to accomplish. All you need is a net and a piece of carpet and you’ve got yourself an indoor hitting bay. That’ll get you started, but it doesn’t need to end there. In recent years, there have been more golf room accessories come to market that allows you to transform your hitting room into a full-fledged golf simulator.

Hitting golf balls is great, but getting feedback from your swing, so you know where the ball goes is infinitely better. It allows you to focus your practice and make adjustments, so you’re not training incorrectly without knowing it. You can also play golf courses all over the world that might be otherwise inaccessible.

Some simple golf simulator accessories can quickly turn your space into an entertainment room that you’ll never want to leave. In this article, we’re going to show you some golf simulator accessories that’ll upgrade your setup. Whether you’re limited by cold winters, time to play, or something else, a golf room can help you scratch the golf itch.

Golf Simulator Turf

The first, and the most basic, item you’ll want to look into upgrading is your golf simulator turf. Of all the golf simulator accessories listed in this article, I think this one is the most important because it provides the actual feel of hitting a golf ball. A bad piece of turf can hurt your hands and change the feel of a golf shot. Like I said above, you can use carpet, but we all know that it doesn’t respond quite like real grass. To be honest, nothing will be exactly the same, but there are some great golf simulator turfs out there that must be the first upgrade to your space.

You have a couple of different options with the turf. You can buy a small piece that’s just big enough for the ball and impact area or you can get a bigger piece that your feet, ball, and impact all come into contact with. My recommendation is to go for the full-size. Don’t cut corners on this item. Smaller pieces of turf move around easier when struck and place the ball on a different level than your feet. Most people would prefer to practice with the ball on level ground and not chase the turf throughout their training.

It's for these reasons that I recommend checking out Carl's Anti-Fatigue Mat. It came out on top of our golf mat survey. It takes a real tee and provides enough size that you can stand on the same piece of turf as the ball and thickness so that you don’t hurt your hands every time you hit the ground. It’s about as close to real grass as I’ve found.

Golf Tees

Next on the list of golf simulator accessories is at least one tee, if not more. With the artificial turf we talked about above, you’re not able to use a normal golf tee to practice your driver. A normal tee can’t anchor to the turf and, even if it could, it’d be poking a bunch of small holes in your turf. As a result, you’ll want to get some rubber tees of different sizes. The variety of sizes allows you to hit different shots and have other people use the space. As we all know, you don’t tee an iron up at the same height as a driver and no two golfers tee their driver up the same height. So, get multiple sizes of tee.

The best ones out there are the standard white rubber ones. You’ve probably seen these before at driving ranges that are on mats for the day. Finger Ten sells a four-pack of different sizes that’ll get you started. They have a wide base that goes under a piece of artificial turf to anchor it down. Then, the narrow tee part sticks up through a hole in the turf. This allows you to have a solid foundation, consistent tee height, and not constantly chase it throughout your practice session. You’ll also limit the holes in your turf to one.

Computer Stand

Golf Simulator Computer Stand
For a golf simulator to be a golf simulator, you’ll need software. The software is what allows you to see your projected ball flight onto a golf course or driving range. One of the best and most flexible out there is E6 Connect (see all our software reviews here). It can connect to a bunch of different launch monitors and turns your computer into a screen where you can see your shot and track your stats. Side note: upgrade this item even more by attaching a projector to the computer, so the image is broadcasted to the screen you’re hitting into.

Since you’ve got this computer sitting next to your hitting area, you are going to need a place to put it. Our next item on the golf simulator accessories list is a stand for the computer. You’re going to be walking back and forth to the computer throughout your practice, so you don’t want to be constantly bending over or just tossing the computer on a chair. Instead, check out something like this 3-in-1 Tripod Laptop Stand. It’s a solid piece of equipment that’s not too big, so it won’t get in the way. This one lifts the computer to a standing height and puts it in a safe spot where it won’t get damaged.

Golf Simulator Control Box

Golf Simulator Control Box
Once you’ve got all the things above, it’s time to start moving into the items that turn your basic golf simulator into a luxury entertainment space. These next few things will make your practice sessions easier and even more convenient.

A golf simulator control box is used to give you control over your simulator without having to leave the hitting bay area. Roxor Golf makes the Ultimate Golf Simulator Control Box that makes everything incredibly simple. From a small box placed next to your ball on the turf, you can push a button with your clubhead to do things like club up or down, aim left or right, see the map of the hole, take a mulligan, and more.

It’s a “must-have” if you want to impress your friends with your golf room. It also eliminates the need to go back and forth to the computer when hitting a shot.

Swing Cameras

The next piece of equipment that you need in your golf simulator is a camera for capturing your golf swing. Again, these are nice for helping you focus your practice and give you complete control over your improvement. If you’re interested in accurately recording your golf swing, a good camera that’s mounted in the correct position is important.

The game of golf has changed when it comes to learning and taking lessons. Modern players and coaches are working with technology to train students, even from long distances. A swing camera in your golf simulator will allow you to take videos of your swing and, if you can’t diagnose issues yourself, send it to your coach for tips.

Hitting a golf ball is both a simple and complex action. Having a swing camera in your golf simulator allows you to see what you’re actually doing in your golf swing. Oftentimes, we think we’re doing something correctly, but upon further inspection with video, we’re actually doing the exact opposite.

A regular digital camera or phone that captures video will work fine, but if you’re looking for the best, consider checking out the GoPro family of cameras. You want to make sure you can analyze your swing at high speed by slowing down the video and viewing it frame by frame. These cameras seek to capture action shots that will allow you to do just that. They are also a great size for mounting in the correct spot for quick recording.

Better yet is to go with a camera specifically designed for capturing the golf swing. These cameras from Carl's Place are designed to work with a golf simulator.

Ideally, you’d have two cameras, so you wouldn’t need to keep moving it, but one can do the trick. The two positions I’d recommend are face-on and down-the-line. Coaches use both of those angles to teach.

Lighting and Spotlights

Next on the list of golf simulator accessories is lighting. This is probably one that most people don’t think about much. The room you’re turning into a golf simulator probably already has some sort of light source, so it’s skipped over quite a bit. If you’re hoping to use the space for practice and video training, though, you’ll want to make sure the hitting area is adequately lit, so that the camera can get the best image possible.

I like the GBGS spotlight. Put a couple of these around the room to light it from different angles and you’ll have more than enough light to see on the video, while not overwhelming yourself with brightness. They’re easily mounted, so you don’t have to worry about moving them around constantly.

Golf Club Storage Rack

Last on our list of golf simulator accessories is a place to store your golf bag. This is a nice thing to have so that your golf clubs aren’t just thrown about or in the way as players rotate through the hitting area. My personal favorite is made by Mythinglogic. It’s a solid, metal piece of equipment that allows you to hold two golf bags as well as shoes, balls, and other accessories on the four shelves. If you’re going to invest in a golf simulator, you want to keep it clean, neat, and organized.

At first, a golf club storage rack may seem like it takes up a lot of space, but it’s going to save you space in the long run by keeping all the equipment together in one place. You probably already have a place where you keep your golf gear. Your simulator can become the new go-to place for all things golf with this storage rack.

Final thoughts on Golf Simulator Accessories

If you’re looking for golf room accessories to make your space the best it can be, you’ve got to purchase these seven items. It may take a bit of time and work to get everything set up just how you want it, but in the long run, you won’t regret the investment.

Not only will you improve your skill by hitting regularly, but you’ll be creating a space that you can use to entertain guests, and can invite coaches into your improvement from anywhere in the world.
